https://neurologyofcannabis.com Hello, friends and colleagues. Protein collection in the brain, in the nerve cells can often cause nerve cell death. This phenomena of abnormal protein aggregates leading to cell death is a common thread through many of the neurodegenerative diseases. One of the new medications just approved by the FDA addresses this in a way that hopes to reduce amyloid accumulation in patients with early Alzheimer’s disease. Fortunately, in the cannabis medical space, we also have evidence that cannabis can help reduce abnormal protein accumulation in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, and to some degree, ALS, although most of this is actually laboratory-based therapy, not so much in the clinic. Huntington’s disease is another condition where Huntington protein collects in nerve cells leading to cell death. So when considering neurodegenerative diseases and protein apathies, cannabis therapy is something we may want to at least give a try with, because we don’t have any good treatments for those conditions presently, especially when it comes to abnormal protein accumulation. And while we’re using cannabis to help these patients with symptoms, we can also at least make an attempt to reduce the pathology. Thank you for listening. And if you have any specific questions about protein apathies or neurodegenerative diseases, please reach me at the Neurology of Cannabis Clinic. ----- Located in beautiful Sarasota, Florida, the offices of Neurology of Cannabis are open to all full-time and seasonal Florida residents exploring medical treatment options with medical marijuana.
