Just a video showing how I fixed one of our longboards with a snapped off tail. The board had come off the racks on the road and the tail completely busted off. Since this is my wife's favorite board, I knew I had to fix it. I tried color matching it, and although it didn't turn out as great as I had hoped, I am still happy with the overall repair. I am not a professional at repairing surfboards, but this video shows how I basically rebuilt and reshaped this tail, and the mistakes that I made along the way. I am sure many of you out there are much better at color matching and fixing dings than me, but hopefully this will help someone that is just starting out get an idea on how to fix a surfboard with a broken tail, or similar surfboard ding. This is similar to the video I made a while back of fixing a very bad nose ding. That was several years ago and even though I didn't color match that one, it turned out fine and that board is still being surfed today. Here's a link to that video: • How to Fix a Surfboard - Very Bad Nose Ding Here's another link to another surfboard repair video I did with a small crack in a rail including color matching the resin: • How to Fix a Surfboard - Cracked Rail Ding... I bought all of my materials from Basham's in San Clemente, CA Materials used: laminating resin sanding resin catalyst several color pigments: white, yellow, red, black, blue, and purple lots of paper mixing cups and popsicle/craft sticks aerosil (for strength) microballoons (to add volume and keep it light) Several scrap pieces of fiberglass cloth mat (to reinforce the new tail) Various grits of sandpaper 40, 60, 80, 100, 220, 240 Milwaukee M12 Multitool/sander https://amzn.to/3emJgQH Disposable gloves I think it would have been better to go with a finer grit sandpaper to finish it off- maybe 400 or 800 grit or even higher. A piece of foam could've also been laminated to the board and sanded in place but I didn't have any foam lying around when I made this video. Finally, I know this video is long. I had 7.5 hours of footage that I was able to cut down and compress into this finished video. I know the video's not perfect either, but I spent many days filming and editing it and I hope you find it helpful. Thanks for watching!
