After moving a few things around in my aquaponic garden it soon became quite apparent that I NEEDED a solids filter. Like ... now. As my more creative side set to work dreaming up several different ways to go about this my more practical nature gave me this, for now. It seems to work so hey, 10 points for get'n 'er done right? Anyway, this is a super simple project that I feel just about anyone could do. That being said, I'm pretty sure there are better ways to go about this but all the same. I simply cut a line across the handle portion of the Folgers can for the waterfall, and surprisingly that worked well enough. I turned the pipe filling the large fish tank so that it faced the back of the coffee can and turned it all back on. So far, so good! Once the water level stabilized I slid a scrubbing pad along the inside of the can to block the waterflow to the waterfall. This seemed to create a simple filter that began catching debris right away. After watching for a few more minutes I decided to add some extra scrubbing pads as well as a few net type scrubbers. This seems to be working very well so far but I will be replacing it with something better in the near future. Not bad for a quick solution though ... Thanks for stopping by! Why not visit the Blogs?
