This is the first test flight of a partially completed (unpainted) Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui, otherwise known as the "Japanese Komet". Based on the 61" wingspan Dennis Bryant ME163B Komet design from the 1970's, it uses a Bob Holman fiberglass fuselage and balsa framework wings built on the Bryant plans. It will eventually be painted and detailed as the ill-fated prototype Shusui, which crashed on its first flight following an engine flame-out, and resulted in the death of the pilot. The model incorporates scale "landing flaps" as well as a servo-activated spring loaded dolly ejection mechanism. The first two minutes involve trimming the model. After the four minute mark, half and then full flaps were tested, indicating need for up-trim. As a result, they were not utilized for this landing.
