WELCOME TO SALTPOND Saltpond is in the same district with Mankessim, but Saltpond took over the District Capital of Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly in the Central Region of Ghana 🇬🇭 THE HISTORY: The town was named SALTPOND because it was a hub for Salt Mining or Salt Production in the ancient days. The United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and the Convention People's Party (CPP) were both established in Saltpond. Saltpond was the first town to have the first tarred road in Ghana. In 1970, the Saltpond Oil Field, Ghana's first offshore oil discovery, was made near the town which led to the establishment of the Saltpond Offshore Producing Company. SALTPOND is a Historical Township of the Fantes that has produced Great People and Politicians like: FRANCIS ALLOTEY (One of the Greatest Mathematician, KOBINA ARKU KORSAH (First Chief Justice of Ghana), AMA ATA AIDOO, etc.. Saltpond was known as the TOWN OF EDUCATIONISTS, I now understand why Saltpond needed that respect of being the District capital over Mankessim, because truthful be told, Mankessim is more opened and commercialized than Saltpond, but History says it all.. According to Oral History, in the ancient days when all coastal towns where involved in Fishing, the people of Saltpond weren't involved in Fishing... YES, they prefer to go to school and than to be a Fisherman. So most of the fishermen in Saltpond were actually people from other Towns. And yeah, Mfantsiman Girls SHS is located in Saltpond. I also got to know that, apart from Mfantsiman Girls SHS, there's another school in Saltpond called SALTPOND METHODIST SENIOR HIGH. Saltpond is the birthplace of Ghana's brass band tradition. #travel #vlog #tour #ghana #africa #centralregion #tourism
