On Lyndon Yorke's business card, he is a “mechanical follyologist”. Back in the early 2000s, Mr. Yorke was crowned Britain’s most eccentric man, beating a chap who ate only baked beans and a chicken farmer who wore a rubber glove on his head to soothe his birds. Lyndon Yorke is one of about 100 members – he is officially member number one – of the Eccentric Club, a London institution that has Prince Philip as its patron. The club was founded in 1890 but closed its doors in 1986. Resurrected in 2008, it is renowned for its Friday 13th dinners, which see members laughing in the face of superstition by walking under ladders and opening umbrellas indoors before settling down to eat a meal in reverse (coffee first, dessert second, and so forth). My favourite of Lyndon's inventions is the Buskermatic a nine-piece life-sized mechanical orchestra made up of copper tubing, and old car windscreen wiper motors- actually 36 motors power the Buskermatic. The control panel switches were from a WW2 Lancaster bomber aimers switching panel.
