The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Cliff Edwards Soundie (1943)

Cliff Edwards is in fine form in this film although he only sings and speaks a few lines in this production, as most of the running time is used to spotlight singer and dancer Marion Colby. So much so, that she receives top billing over Cliff Edwards' name! I find this unusual because Colby only had a couple of uncredited roles to her name prior to appearing in this musical jukebox short. Marion Colby was mostly known as a singer and a dancer with a few appearances in movies and on TV, and she was only 20 when she appeared in The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. She died in 1987 at the age of 64. Although Cliff takes a backseat to Marion's singing and dancing, his reaction to her and his mugging is priceless. All-in-all, a most enjoyable film that is still around for all to see!
