Creating Sarasota's New Bayfront Park: AG Laffley joins me to provide viewers an update on The Bay

Former CEO of Proctor and Gamble, AG Laffley, is putting his expertise to use in service of creating a new bayfront park in the City of Sarasota. Planning to build the park, known as The Bay, began in 2014. Laffley joined the effort a few years later and ultimately became a leader of this ambitious effort. The Bay is a public/private partnership to transform a 53 acres site into a cohesive cultural, boating and recreation center. Currently dominated by a surface parking lot, this waterfront parcel is undergoing redevelopment to become the fully integrated cultural and recreational gem envisioned by our community. The effort has not been without confusion and some controversy. A separate collateral effort to build a new performing arts hall has created alarm due to it's lack of robust financials and questions about whether siting a new performing arts hall on the water is wise. AG Laffley walks through the accomplishment of Phase I, the Phase II changes currently underway, future improvements and how it is all being funded. Tax Increment Financing is explained, as well as efforts to create an endowment for the park's future management and maintenance.
