Here I go over some chasen care tips, from chasen-tōji to reshaping. Ideally, if you follow the basic steps of chasen-tōji before making a bowl of tea and thoroughly rinsing the whisk afterwards, you shouldn't have to deep clean your whisk or reshape it all that often. Note: I know that my use of the kusenaoshi (whisk shaper) to press into the chasen is not what you're used to seeing, but rest assured this is one of many standard ways to use it. Another use, that I forgot to mention in the video, is using it to hold the tines open while you adjust the spacing. Over time, not only do the tines straighten, but the spaces between each time become irregular. The friction between the whisk and the kusenaoshi can hold the tines still while you adjust the spacing. This is purely aesthetic and has no real impact on useability though. 00:00 - Introduction 00:14 - Chasen-tōji 01:38 - Rinsing 02:32 - Using a Kusenaoshi? 03:31 - Cleaning Dirty Whisks 04:46 - Scrubbing 06:16 - Cracks and Humidity 06:37 - Cleaning a Chashaku 07:01 - Final Notes How to Make Usucha Video: • My Daily Matcha Routine | How I Make ...
