After saving money while living in a camper, she teamed up with her friend Alex to build a custom off-grid cabin for just $10,700—less than the cost of one year’s rent in most cities. Inside the 16x9 Tiny House Tour Despite the small footprint, this 144-square-foot cabin feels spacious thanks to high ceilings and intentional zones. Bri designed the home with three goals: baking, working out, and finding zen. Off-Grid Kitchen: Featuring a 20-inch propane stove, butcher block countertops, and a custom undermount sink. Water & Power: Living without traditional utilities, Bri uses a hand pump well and a Jackery power station to run her lights and appliances. Heating with Wood: A wood-burning stove keeps the cabin warm during long Maine winters, fueled by wood chopped right on the property. Sleeping Loft: A full-size bed accessible by cat-friendly steps, keeping the main floor open for hosting and relaxation. The Financial Freedom of Tiny Living By moving to "Little Village," Bri reduced her monthly bills to just $300–$400. This lifestyle shift allowed her to step away from the stress of a 40-hour work week and focus on what matters. Alex, the landowner, explains the local building codes in Maine that allow for structures under 150 square feet to exist without complex permits, provided they remain "unplumbed" to the grid. Challenges of Off-Grid Life From using a composting toilet to visiting a local gym for showers, Bri discusses the realities of minimalist living. While midnight trips to the outdoor bathroom in the cold can be tough, the reward of seeing shooting stars and living in a "snow globe" during winter makes it all worth it.
