This new setup for recording my acoustic music at home with no computer, completely dawless, is definitely my favorite home recording setup. Trying to record acoustic music in a small nook in my basement was really frustrating using a computer and expensive condensor mics, until I sold all that stuff and went back to basics. Now I'm using a Tascam 424mkiii, the Tascam Model 12, my Strymon Flint pedal for reverb, Shure Sm7b on vocals, SE Vodoo VR1 ribbon mic for guitar, Gibson J50, and GIK acoustic Panels. It's not what you would get from a pro studio, but for some quick take demos, it's perfect for me. In this video I tracked everything to the Tascam Model 12 and then bounced a stereo mix to tape on the Tascam 424 mkiii. I intended to add a few more tracks once I bounced it to tape, but that didn't happen. Still, I was able to completely stay away from a computer during the whole project, except for this part and editing the video. There's already a guy that does extensive videos on the Tascam 424mkiii, so I'm not going to go into how that thing works. This is more of a demonstration of how to eliminate the computer while still keeping lots of options open for mixing and processing tracks. For me, twisting knobs and pushing faders is way more satisfying then clicking a mouse and staring at a screen even if the tradeoff is lower fidelity and less possibilities.
