Find a little mindfulness in the midst of roaring lions! Commencing on Friday May 03 2024 and run over 3-days, visitors had the opportunity to enter a place filled with peace and happiness, while breathing in the the glorious fragrances from a wide range of fresh flowers. Stepping through the large imposing solid timber doors, your mind can expect to release all anxiety while being immersed in the delightful melody of chanting echoing in the background. Welcome to the celebration of the 34th annual Buddha Birth Day Festival. Although guaranteed to find many moments of peacefulness, with over 150 events, hundreds of performers, a parade filled with many different cultural groups, an amazing selection of delectable vegetarian and vegan delights, roaring Chinese Lion Dances, around a couple of hundred hopefully happy babies being blessed, traditional Hakka Pounded Tea demonstrations as well as Tea Chan Ceremonies, Drumming classes, One-Stroke Calligraphy display from Venerable Master Hsing Yun, and a spectacular laser light show, this family friendly event delighted all, providing a rich and memorable cultural experience and moments of excitement, all in the heart of South-East Queensland. Organised by the Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple, Buddha’s Light International Association of Queensland (BLIAQ) and Chung Tian Chinese School, Ms Michelle Lo, President of the BLIAQ was excited to yet again be involved in what was an amazing festival. Ms Lo joyfully reflected that: “the Chung Tian Temple provides visitors with an truly traditional cultural experience. The ambiance and tranquility of the temple atmosphere, the smell of burning incense and sounds of relaxing chanting, and so much delightful food is something that leaves a lasting memory on all who visit”. A key events of the festival was the “Ten Practices”, where visitors were able to follow in Buddha’s steps and partake in a series of activities throughout ten locations within the temple, finding peace and unlocking ones inner treasures. Then on Saturday night, a spectacular laser show, hosted by celebrity Terry Hansen, lit up the skies to celebrate the Buddha’s birthday and his legacy. Not only did the Buddha achieve enlightenment and shine his light in the world, the laser show served as a reminder that, we too, have the Buddha’s light within our hearts to bring happiness and peace to all. With a team of 1,000 volunteers assisting, there was over 150 activities on offer from learning and discovering about Buddhism, to experiencing through your senses. The Buddha Birth Day Festival is an accessible friendly event, accredited climate friendly event, free event to enter and named as the inaugural Signature Event of Logan by May Jon Raven at the festival's Official Ceremony.
