Aonach Mòr is one of the highest Munros in Scotland, and the only mountain in UK with cable car climbing to base placed at 650m - so more or less half way up. There is a restaurant with amazing views, sadly closed when we got there (water froze in the pipes). Downhill Mountain Biking track starts there too and leads to the bottom of the hill. It hosted a World Championship in 2007. From the upper gondola base you can hike another 500m up to the plateau on the ridge, passing some chairlifts and ski tows of Nevis Range Ski Area. The plateau itself is quite wide and makes real impression when covered with snow. The top of the mountain is marked by little cairn and view from that point is just spectacular in all sides, especially towards CMD and Ben Nevis towering behind it as well (video from our climb to both is here: • Ben Nevis via CMD Arête - 1345m - Sco... ). To the left from Ben Nevis you can see peaks of Steal Ring and a sister peak to Aonach Mòr - Aonach Beag, which is few meters higher and easily accessible from the plateau. We didn't have time to climb it though, besides we have other plans for it (later this year). Aonach Mòr is also quite famous amongst all enthusiast of ice climbing and extreme skiing, what you can see on the video. The climb was relatively easy. Partially, because using gondola made it much easier, but also because for most of the way, there were some tracks in the snow. There were parts of the trail where we had to climb in a deep snow, but it was more fun than hindrance, especially that the weather was brilliant. Car park below the mountain is very big. We were there in Thursday and it was not particularly busy, but it may be different over the weekend. In the lower base there are shops and toilets (and ticket office for gondola). Overall it was amazing experience - easy way to admire an amazing massif of Ben Nevis.
