Located opposite Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario's, Veterans Green, Timothy Schmalz's bronze sculpture, 'Canadian Veterans' Memorial', is dedicated to the Canadian veterans of wars and peace-keeping missions. Erected with the assistance of the Kitchener-Waterloo Naval Association Charitable Trust Fund, it was unveiled by John and Kathryn Damman on November 5, 2006. An adjacent column bears two plaques. The first states: "Never before has a multi-dimensional work of art been created memorializing our Veterans encompassing all our country's military history and those who served. Using a multitude of figures, this memorial has captured every branch of the Canadian Armed Forces and through the use of historical dress and military gear represents every theatre of war that Canadians has [sic] served in, from past to present. This memorial was created to pay respect and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice and for those brave men and women who continue to serve. The memorial is a physical and visual reminder of Remembrance Day for generations to come. John and Kathryn Damman, November 5, 2006. “We wish to express our warmest thanks to contributed to this project, with special recognition to Mac Voisin, Dr. Gary Steinhoff, Carolann Steinhoff, Leighton Steinhoff, Manulife Financial, Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation, Ball Construction, City of Waterloo, Cross Country Concrete Ont., MTE Consultants, Paul Dietrich, Steed and Evans Ltd., Royal Canadian Legion(s) of the Region of Waterloo, Kitchener-Waterloo Naval Association. “Our sincerest appreciation to our dedicated committee members Jason Babcock, Marilyn Babcock, Pete Beutler, Kathryn Cassidy, Anne Marie Collins, Candi Craddan, Dave Davidson, Mike Edwards, Terry Hartman, Jim Logel, Lt(N) Terri-Leigh Saunders, Caroline Zach, Sgt Kevin Zach CD" The second is composed by the sculptor: "From distant eternity / They come back from wars / Fought in each century / To present their brother / The survivor / Who holds a poppy / A challenge to remember. / Timothy P. Schmaltz” The Canadian Veterans' Memorial, is located at 50 University Avenue West, Waterloo, Ontario.
