With the world as it is, I find immense comfort in visiting nature and listening to her sounds. The style of the poem is influenced by Wordsworth. My aim is to breathe life into our rich literary heritage, and to add to the tradition through my own writing. Your support helps me to continue. If you have enjoyed my poetry readings please consider purchasing my book: 'Poems for Susan'. I will send you a signed copy! https://www.poetryfromtheshires.com/s... Written during the summer lockdown, the poems tell a story of love and distance, the bond between tradition and modernity, and ultimately convey a message of hope. In his foreword, Raymond Keene OBE writes, "Poems for Susan functions as an overview of the entire English tradition of poetic creation, in terms of varying style, rhythm, meter, rhyme and subject matter. While poetry such as this can still be written, civilisation shall not sink, the great battle of the mind shall not be lost, and the rough beast will - along with the passionate intensity of the worst - finally be overcome". Never will eternal nature lie Without a poet’s or a painter’s eye. When the stench of city leaves me poor, The rain glossed spinners web and petrichor Bathe me in bliss, the tune of unknown birds Lift my thoughts to heaven and the words Of perfect poetry. The ceaseless flow Of the immortal stream and then the glow Of daffodils kissing the water side Where pygmy fishes feed and quickly hide When they spy my human form, every part Of the tapestry stills my longing heart, And fills my higher thought. So I leave The world of our possession, where to thieve Is thought a great success, where cruel spite Snips the thread of gentleness, and night Is for the lustful pillager. I go To the forest, to the mother, to know The antithesis of gloom. Far away From the strident sounds, but first I say A deep apology: thou must please forgive My absence from thy wood, I need to live Through busy streets and sentences of din, But hold thy beauty in the mind within, Until it fades beneath the drudge of common day, When I return to feel again the sway Of thy eternal song. #OriginalPoetry #Poetry
