“Ups and Downs came about from an experiment I conducted during the pandemic in 2020,” shares bassist Rob Derhak. “There was a lot of uncertainty about our future, and the touring music business was especially uncertain. Stuck at home, and left to my own devices, I began working on my home digital recording setup.” “I came up with the idea of trying to write songs for people, and ‘Ups and Downs’ was one of those songs,” he continues. “It began with a conversation and a story. A man wanted me to write a song for him that could help express his feelings for his wife and their relationship. He wrote an email about how they met, but what struck me most was when he said, ‘Like anyone else, we’ve had our ups and downs.’ Once I read that, my mind opened up, and I was able to draw from my own experiences in personal relationships, and thus, the song ‘Ups and Downs’ was born.” Ups and Downs - the first single from moe.’s 14th studio album, Circle of Giants, out on Jan. 31, 2025 on Fatboy Records / ATO Records.
