Coach Toni is a West Indian American Woman who grew up in Harlem New York. While she always wanted to be a teacher, she never believed that math was the subject that she would teach because for most of her grade school career at the exclusive Hunter College Campus Schools, she failed her math classes. When a family friend offered to help, Coach Toni began to see math in a different light and also appreciated that it was a black woman who took the lead in the discovery of her passion. Upon self-reflection, Coach Toni realized that she could be the next black woman who could inspire minority boys and girls in her radius to embrace and at least respect math. Coach Toni, after graduating with a Bachelors in Mathematics and a Masters in Adolescent Mathematics Education started Play.Math.Grow LLC to help close the education gap that exists in this country by way of math tutoring and student life coaching. Her latest initiative: Virtual Student Trip, curates virtual experiences throughout the country for students who are unable to travel/go on field trips due to the current pandemic.
