I bought this show last year when I went to an anime convention ebign held at a not-too far away library called Shobou Con. It’s small, but it has a lot of personality plus it’s free. I always try to purchase at least 1 anime at every convention I go to, so it can serve as a souvenir and a reminder of the time I had there. Out of all the complete anime DVD sets available to buy, El Cazador de la Bruja sounded by far the most interesting. The great thing about having an anime convention in a library is that if you’re unsure about whether to buy a series you can go to the computer room and research it online to see if you want it. I did that, and went for this. So, how did it turn out? The bad news is that despite a couple websites telling me there was no real nudity in this series, there actually was. Thankfully I can use Windows Live Moviemaker to simply edit it out of the offending episodes so it’s not too bad. It also wasn’t as action-packed as I thought it would be. I mean, I’m not expecting every single anime to be action-oriented. I knew when I started Kino’s Journey that there would be little to no action in it, and so far it has not failed to entertain me greatly. But I just thought that we would get more action sequences since 2 of the main characters are bounty hunters. The show could also be a little slow at times. Again, it’s simply not what I expected. Finally, while the main storyline comes to a close you will be left with several unanswered questions. While not cliffhangers, these questions are enough to form a bit of a wart. Despite all that, this still turned out to be a pretty good little series. But then, the fact that I like this is pretty obvious since I’m willing to do a music video for it. The plot while slow was very good for the most part, mainly after episode 10. Like I said before it’s not that I am unwilling to appreciate a more laidback approach to storytelling, it’s simply that I wasn’t prepared when I started watching this. I did come to appreciate that it was different than most anime I’ve seen. The characters were all great, my favorites being Nadie and Ricardo. And when there is real action it is absolutely thrilling, though some of my favorite epsiodes had little to no action (like episode 14, Maple Leaf). Even some of the slow moments (like the Mexican standoffs) rank among the most memorable moments of this show. For this video I set out to tell as much of the main story as I could with the opening song, which is really good. The lack of action did make this a hard video to do at first. Once I got to the point where I used clips from episode 13 however, everything flowed smoothly. But even after I finished I still went back and redid the earliest parts as best as I could and improved upon them greatly. The final result is truly one of my better if not best music videos. It is the most challenging story music video I’ve done in a long time, maybe ever. It was very difficult picking clips to represent some powerful moments. And despite what I say about the series being slow, there is still enough material for me to do another music video with the ending song. It will most likely be a while before that happens, so until then enjoy this one. This video was made using Windows Live Movie Maker. I do not own El Cazador de la Bruja or this song.
