This video was produced for ceramics 1 students at Anaheim High School. Part 3 will focus on finishing the bowl by cleaning it up. In part 2 I constructed a decorative coil panel and attached it to the base by scoring, slipping, and blending it together. Part 1 focused on forming a base for the coil bowl by rolling a slab and attaching the first few coils. Total building time was just under 75 minutes. Coil Bowl Steps: 1. Wedge clay. 2. Roll a slab & cut a round base. 3. Create your first coil & trim it to size. 4. Score the coil & base, then add slip. 5. Attach your coil & blend both the inside and outside. 6. Continue adding coils and wet them before attaching. 7. Creating a strip or panel with a coil pattern design. Coil Pot Tips: Score & Slip the first coil each class period. Twist your coils to keep them round. Dip your finger in water to smooth the cracks when rolling coils. Always blend the coils on the inside to fully attach & smooth as you go. Always support the clay with one hand as you work with the other.
