Get Tangled Filament here: https://www.tangledfilament.com/ In today's Tangled Testing, we evaluated NGO 4043 standard filament from Tangled Filament in both black and gray to analyze its performance in 3D printing applications. Using a calibrated tensile test machine, we examined the tensile strength and layer adhesion of vertically printed samples, adhering to ASTM standards. Each sample was produced in batches of ten on a consistent machine to ensure reliable results and to minimize machine variability. The focus was on understanding how different colorants, specifically black and gray, affect the filament's strength and performance, with the expectation that color additives might influence the material's properties. Our tests revealed that while both colors exhibited impressive tensile strength, with an average force of about 1700 newtons, the gray filament showed greater variability compared to the black. This suggests that colorants can impact the consistency of 3D printed parts, highlighting the need for further investigation into the effects of additives. The black filament demonstrated greater consistency, indicating more reliable performance in 3D printing applications. This study serves as a baseline for comparing other filaments and understanding how different factors, such as colorant and print settings, influence the mechanical properties of PLA in 3D printed parts.
