In this video you can hear the traditional jazz Standard "if I only had a brain" by Harold Arlen in a fresh Americana Telecaster Jazz Style. http://www.wurtinger.com - Lesson, Ebooks and More. The friends from the company Gabojo were kind enough to provide their new Nickel Soap Bar Dynasonic Pickup for this video. I was personally very interested in trying a Dynasonic pickup in the neck position of a Telecaster. I am a fan of Dearmond-style pickups and Gabojo are making a great work. In the end, I have to say that Lipstick pickups, Charlie Christian, and the Dynasonic can all sound amazing in the neck position of a Telecaster, and the differences are nuances of personal taste - I really love the "growl" of the bass strings of this particular Pickup which supporting the natural soundpallet of a telecaster. Charlie Christian Pickup: Personally, I would say that the Charlie Christian pickup is the warmest sounding pickup, and I would even recommend switching to 500k volume pots, combined with an additional resistor, so that the bridge pickup can continue working with 250k. Additionally, the Charlie Christian pickup has a much higher output, and the only way to keep up with it is to switch the bridge pickup to a more powerful one (unfortunately, in my opinion, this may result in less "twang" at the bridge), or another solution with an additional mini trim pot behind the pickup, which I have not yet tested. Classic Tele neck Pickup (in my case, Kloppmann pickup): Although I enjoy experimenting with various neck pickups, a classic telecaster pickup is a fantastic pickup. It works really well with the output of the bridge pickup and has the glassy "bell-like" tone that I really enjoy. It’s not as warm and mid-focused as the CC, but by dialing back the volume and tone pots, you can find some great sweet spots. The Dynasonic or Mr.2000p: I have already had the pleasure of trying a Mr.2000 from Gabojo in one of my archtop guitars. Gabojo makes fantastic hand-built pickups with great attention to detail and beautifully designed products. The Dynasonic, surprisingly, doesn't sound much warmer or completely different from a Lipstick pickup at first listen. Upon initial testing, I felt it had a similar warmth to a regular Tele pickup with a little more output than Tele neck pickup (but not as much as the CC). Additionally, the Dynasonic captures the "growl" of the bass strings very well, which I especially appreciate in a Telecaster. Thanks to the adjustable pole pieces, the pickup offers many options for experimentation. After playing it for a while and recording this video, I would describe the sound as "more transparent" and "separated," which is probably due to the individually adjustable pole pieces that, in essence, offer more of a "staggered" pickup sound like on a Stratocaster. The Gabojo works well with my Broadcaster bridge pickup, and the middle position is quite usable, though there is a slight volume difference that you either have to live with or experiment with the options mentioned above.
