Warmachine (typically stylized as warmachine) is a rising Boston-based shoegaze/post-punk band hailing from the Allston and Mission Hill DIY scene. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Lex, drummer Brendan, bassist X, and guitarist Ethan, they quickly gained recognition playing basement shows and local venues in Boston. Musical Style & Releases • Sound: They fuse 90s-inspired shoegaze, noise rock, and post-hardcore, with thick fuzz, dissonance, and nostalgic textures. • Key EPs/albums: • Project (Feb 2024): Post-hardcore with playful twists—one track is “about Bowser”. • Browser’s Castle (Aug 2024, via Candlepin Records): A slowcore/shoegaze cassette featuring tracks like “asbestos” and “cicadas”. • Soulmurder (Mar 2025): Their latest EP, showing growth with experimental vocals and layered effects. A Reddit poster noted their single “deeply inspired by Blue Smiley”. Active presence in Boston live circuit: venues like O’Brien’s Pub and college DIY spaces like WRBB’s Time Warp Prom, where they channeled 90s grit with Sonic Youth covers and originals. DIY & Authentic: Lex emphasizes keeping things raw and natural—recording in college studios, self-producing, and releasing tapes over vinyl to stay grounded. Friendship-driven creation: They record together in close quarters (e.g., Vermont studio sleep‑overs), nurturing a family‑like bond that fuels their music and collaborative chemistry. In their words: “We’re not trying to be something we’re not. I love the feeling of authenticity, and I think that’s what the 90s were kind of all about.” – Lex “warmachine does just feel like a friend group to me at this point in the best way possible.” – Brendan
