Delicate Arch and Double Arch Hikes: Arches National Park, Utah

If you are visiting Arches National Park for the day, you MUST see the Delicate Arch and Double Arch. We felt that the hike to Delicate Arch was absolutely worth it vs. going to the Lowe Delicate Arch Viewpoint. As far as difficulty, we felt this hike was moderate because there are some hills you need to climb and the rocks get sandy (which make them slippery). If you go earlier in the season, you may encounter ice on the trail, like we did. Our hiking poles helped us tremendously to traverse this sketchy part of the trail but if we would have had crampons, we would have been better off. When you reach the Delicate Arch, head to your right if you’re facing the arch for a beautiful vista of the La Sal Mountains being framed by Delicate Arch. After Delicate Arch, we headed to Double Arch and it was a very short easy hike. If you wish to climb inside Double Arch, be careful because the sand on the rocks makes them very slippery. If you catch the light just right, the sun will peep through an opening in one of the walls just outside of Double Arch. We concluded our adventure with a night expedition to Double Arch and Balanced Rock. According to the “Clear Outside App” it was going to be the best chance to see stars. We enjoyed time seeing the Milky Way and photographing the rock formations.
