Here is a little bit of an instructional video showing how you can do the +5v RAM install on a Colecovision without needing professional tool. As for the tools; most of the stuff in the video should be standard kit for even the most basic enthusiast; soldering iron, solder, hookup wire, etc.... a couple tools of note, as pointed out in the video: Shear cutter: we should all have some sort of wire cutters, but these shear cutters are flat on one side, much better for cutting the pins off the chips.
