Perhaps the most controversial topic this year is ICE's immigration enforcement in America. The campaign promised the largest domestic deportation operation in history, pledging to only target the "worst of the worst." For weeks at the start of the year, federal immigration agents descended on Minneapolis, Minnesota, to enforce the administration's immigration priorities. The White House claimed Operation Metro Surge resulted in more than 4,000 arrests of undocumented immigrants. In the ensuing protests, federal law enforcement agents also shot and killed two U.S. citizens: Renee Good and Alex Pretti. For many Americans, what happened in Minneapolis was a turning point in their opinions. Now, President Donald Trump is set to address his immigration agenda in Thursday's State of the Union address. In his address, the president is expected to "call on Democrats in Congress to reopen the Department of Homeland Security," according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
