WOODWORKING…MAKING AN EXOTIC WOOD MALLET Recently when a floor lumber company closed I was gifted several pieces of exotic and American wood flooring samples. In this project I’m using several pieces of Acacia,Brazilian Cherry and American maple. This is not a very complex project but it does have a lot of precise parts. If you take your time even a novice can put this project together. The final size of the mallet is about 5 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/3 inches wide and just under 3 inches thick. The most time consuming part is waiting for the glue to dry. It’s pretty much straightforward. Making the wedge insert portion as accurately as possible will help you in assembling the completed project later. Wedges were made of left over purple heart .Everything is sanded starting at 80 grit and ending up with 400 grit. In this project don’t spare the glue. Nominal squeeze out is desired. The handles are accented with pieces of Purple Heart, followed by three small brass screws on either side. The handle is made of solid maple. Once completed, everything was re-sanded by hand to 400 grit and then I used the oil as a finish as shown in one of the slides. I hope you liked my project. If you have please subscribe and give it a thumbs👍 up as it helps my channel. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact me at georgiejet@yahoo.com
