A watercolour landscape in my Sketchbook

I decided to try something different this time: a traditional watercolour landscape( no ink lines) working from a photograph I saw in a newspaper. As you'll gather from my commentary, all was going well until I decided to try be much more painterly and get to grips with the overhanging trees, which were casting the lovely shadows. Big mistake. You can make up for own mind, but I preferred the painting as it was prior to this bit. I almost didn't;t upload it and consign it to the bin, but then I thought "no, everything's a learning opportunity' so here it is. My next upload will be this same painting , but with added ink lines drawn in, which I hope will rescue the piece. Wish me luck?
