Before we begin I’d like to introduce myself. If you ran across this video by mistake then just know my name is Ben, I produce mostly techno under the name “benki”, I’m a classically trained musician, that got into live electronic music a few years ago and I’ve been building this setup for like 2 years, and documenting the process on social media every once in a while, if i don’t forget to do so, but lately, since we all found ourselves at home with a lot of free time in our hands, I thought why not show you what i do, but like, really, show you. not just turn knobs. The whole point of this project is, first, to show you that live modular systems are easy to understand, because that’s what a musical instrument should be, but they can be as simple or complex as you want, depending on what you’re trying to use them for. Also, to give you new patch ideas that I’ve come up with while planning this system to make it easier to play, which is the most time consuming part of the process, but also the most rewarding, because limitations force you to solve problems, which is fun in most cases. :) Each of the Videos in this series focuses on a different part of the rack, and explain how things are patched and how patching them that way, helps me improvise and play more naturally.
