There are times when it is unwise for us to trust our husbands - if they are: involved in unrepentant sin actively addicted to drugs/alcohol physically abusive emotionally/spiritually abusive (by God's standard, not our own definition) mentally ill/not in their right mind involved in infidelity other extreme situations If these things describe your situation, please seek godly, biblical, wise, experienced help with someone you can see in person. Sometimes we are afraid to trust because of our own lack of faith in God and our desire to control things ourselves. That is what I did for so many years in our marriage. I thought I couldn't trust Greg, but it turns out, my husband was quite trustworthy. He was responsible, thoughtful, loving, kind, careful, gentle and patient. My problem with trusting him was actually rooted in my lack of trust in God. I didn't know or trust God's design for marriage. I tried to take on God's sovereignty and be in control of other people and my circumstances and tried to make things happen the way I thought they should. That created such loneliness, bitterness, resentment, anxiety and fear in my heart! I missed out on so much intimacy on every level with my husband because of my fear of not being in control. I have some videos and blog posts on fear and Superman that you may want to check out. My last post was about respect, submission, forgiveness and trust - how some of these things are things Christ commands us to do unconditionally and some are not. God commands us to trust Him and reverence Him and submit to Him unconditionally. God doesn't command us to trust our husbands. He does command us to respect, honor and biblically submit to our husbands. He does command us to forgive those who sin against us. But he doesn't command us that we must trust someone who is mistreating us or who is living in unrepentant sin. Much love to each of you!
