Equity Savings Funds are another type of Hybrid mutual fund schemes. Which means such funds invest in a mix of different asset classes such as stocks, bonds and money market instruments. The objective of such funds is to minimize risk by diversifying our portfolio. Another advantage Equity Savings Funds take is that of Arbitraging. Arbitraging creates returns by the continuous purchase and sale of shares in different markets. A stock could be trading for Rs.100 but the price of the same share could be Rs.102 in the Futures market. In this case, an Arbitrageur will take delivery of shares at Rs.100 and at the same time short sell a lot in the Futures market for 102. The difference in the price becomes the arbitrage profit. We will also discuss the asset allocation technique used for such funds in this video. For instance according to SEBI guidelines, such funds need to invest at least 65% of their corpus in the stock markets. Towards the end of the video, we will discuss the long term and short term capital gains tax implications of the fund.
