Hello guys! Welcome to my series called 1.e4 for dummies. Don't be discouraged by its name as it is a well known name for books and courses of various subjects. The goal of this Series is to give you a comprehensive guide to your first Chess Opening, which I recommend it to be 1.e4. I will take you through the various openings and variations you should know, but I will try my absolute best to stick to these 3 key principles: 1) Understanding over memorization. Memorization is completely useless in chess until a relatively high level. Avoid it at all costs. Instead, aim to understand every single move you make (not only in the openings). If you can explain the move out loud, then at least there was a reasoning behind it. 2) Going wide rather than deep. A mistake that I see a lot of opening course authors make is that they'll try and go super deep into the lines like we are interested in knowing what happens down 25 moves of theory in a particular line. Forget about it. Chess has too many possibilities. We should be well-versed in the mainlines of the openings, and should simply know/understand why other moves exist (the sidelines). 3) We will study by learning from Great Games of the past. Hope you enjoy this format and please let me know if there's any tweaks you'd like me to make or other things I should take into consideration! Cheers and let's learn some chess.
