Meet the London Gypsy Orchestra | 2009 Memories

The London Gypsy Orchestra was a beautiful community of musicians and dancers founded and directed by Gundula Gruen. They poured their hearts and souls into exploring and sharing the rich, vibrant music of Eastern Europe and the Balkans, a sound that stirs the spirit and moves the soul. 2009 was a landmark year for the London Gypsy Orchestra (LGO), defined by major artistic achievements and a bold expansion of our reach. It was the year we successfully directed and produced our album launch celebration for Ajde Gadje, a huge creative milestone. Gundula continued to push boundaries, leading the group to memorable sold-out concerts and unique projects. We delighted in sharing our World Music and Balkan rhythms with new audiences, whether through being featured on Turkish State Television, performing in magnificent historic churches like St John's at the Notting Hill Mayfest, or collaborating on the biggest commission ever in Ulverston. From the whimsical street procession of Balkan Barry to our dramatic Halloween party, 2009 cemented the LGO's reputation for high-quality, unforgettable live performance and pure musical joy.
