When this sound bite was recorded in 1974, America was in the midst of fighting an uphill battle against "Big Tobacco." Congress had just passed a bill requiring that a Surgeon General's warning be printed on every cigarette box, and all broadcast advertising had been banned. The public was wising up to the dangers of smoking, and some even sought "safer" alternatives. But, like Dr. SIMS said in the 70s, there is no "safe" alternative to smoking. People probably aren't smoking dried lettuce nowadays, but many are smoking e-cigarettes. These devices may appear harmless, but they can contain harmful, unregulated chemicals that should not be inhaled. Take it from Dr. SIMS: There is no compromise between cigarettes and health!
