This is a really old video and I plan on making more on the pass soon. There are more techniques to learn and you will never stop learning the pass your entire life. Hopefully this video will be helpful for you in your journey to learn more. Don't consider this to be all encompassing, because even my own pass has evolved and looks much different than this now.... and yours will evolve too. POV tutorial starts @ 11:12 The classic pass has long been taught and performed incorrectly, and with the wrong mindset. This tutorial, with over an hour of instruction, will explain the details of the pass, from get readies, to angles, to grips, misdirection, philosophy / theory , and how to actually perform it live. There is a massive amount of info in this tutorial. Multiple viewings are suggested, or note taking is also encouraged so you can follow along. The classic pass is best suited as a soft shift. I will be teaching how to make your pass look fast while only using angles and technique instead of speed. Once you learn how easy it is to cover your angles, and how to effortlessly cut the packets... a lightbulb will go off in your head. Realizing the futility of speed and forced actions will take your pass from average, to good overnight if you apply these principles and subtleties. Music credits: bensound.com Some of the sources I have used while developing this pass concept: Alex Pandrea ("Ultimate Guide To The Pass", "Brick Pass 2.0") Xavier Spade ("The Pass by Xavior Spade") "Deceptive Design" Discord Users: "Dragic", "Wilber Cortez", "IndustrialChild" "Bulla" It was by the help of people like Dragic that I opened my eyes to the more subtle aspects of the sleight. I then learned how effortless the move could truly be when thought of from a different aspect... one that has seemingly gone completely against the grain. I hope you take your time to digest this information and truly work at it, some of these principles and techniques will take practice to get down smoothly, but no 1 piece of the sleight is really that difficult when you take your time to do it properly. It is putting all of the actions together which makes the pass a difficult move, no one part of it is really that difficult. You need to have a strategy every time you use the pass, and practice the pass. Time and repetition will make your improvements permanent, it may take months to break old habits, but if you are consciously aware of what you need to work on you will get there much faster. The pass is an extremely versatile sleight that has gotten a bad rap from the magic community in some circles. This sleight is brilliant and can be used efficiently and effortlessly, but it is just a sleight, and just one tool out of thousands that you can use. Do not listen to others who put you down for wanting to use the classic pass, practice the sleights you want to learn. Is the pass the easiest sleight to learn? No, but I guarantee you that if you work hard at it, you will attain a higher level of sleight of hand proficiency, and a deeper knowledge of magic theory once you start performing it live. To use the pass effectively you should apply theory and use misdirection, and the pass is a sleight that will certainly test your misdirection skills. The pass may only be difficult because it is not being taught properly, if you follow the instructions in this tutorial to the letter, and make an earnest effort into not taking shortcuts, you will learn the move with ease. The easier a move is, the more confident you are with it. Just remember that the pass should only be used in specific situations, like when you don't want the cards to be shuffled but still control a card (eg. ACR routines). The pass is extremely powerful tool for the ACR, and multitudes of other effects where you want to control a card or cards without it seeming like anything happened (no shuffle). Keep that in mind before using the pass, often times a shuffle control is more appropriate to an effect... many times you want a card to feel "lost" in the deck, in those cases a pass shouldn't be used.
