-History: "Land of Hope and Glory" is one of Britain’s most famous patriotic songs. The song’s melody comes from Sir Edward Elgar’s "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1", composed in 1901. When Elgar played the march for the newly crowned King Edward VII, the King was so impressed that he suggested it would make a fine song if words were added to the tune. Following the King’s suggestion, A.C. Benson, a poet and essayist, wrote the words. Elgar then set them to music, and the song became part of his "Coronation Ode" for Edward VII’s coronation in 1902.
