Missing June a cold wind is blowing it cuts to the bone the trees are bare the leaves are gone I can't stand up I can barely breathe my eyes are heavy what's wrong with me? *remembering the sun shining down *bathing in her light *greenery growing all around me *the songs of the birds and bees I'm an old craggy tree blowing in the breeze my branches are creaking so painfully my veins won't flow they're frozen tight I can only think of you day and night * I'm missing June our limbs entwined June the days without time June the scent of her air June her presence a prayer I'm missing June ______________________________________ This song supposes a sentiment Johnny Cash may have felt during a short time between the passing of his wife, June Carter Cash, on May 15, 2003 and his own passing some few months later on September 12, 2003. The song came to be through conversations with one of my subscribers and a friend of his. The idea was put past me, and I thought I might be able to do something with it. I hope I've done the idea some justice. (I thank both of you for allowing me to make this attempt at constructing this song!) I can say it was a pleasure to review the journey of John and June, seeing interviews and hearing diets from various decades. During the process, I may have found a favorite: the Cash's appearance on Rainbow Quest in 1966. Thank you, John and June, for such a fine addition to the American canon of song and to American culture and spirit. =M=
