Who We Are: The Diasporic Alliance for Cannabis Opportunities (DACO) is a community organization with a nonprofit fiduciary relationship with Marijuana Justice, a 501c3. Our main goal is to raise awareness about educational, wellness, and economic prospects in the cannabis industry across the diaspora. We strive to foster a balanced and thriving cannabis community that promotes physical and mental well-being. BCW (Black Cannabis Week) is one of DACO's annual programming initiatives. It focuses on organizing cannabis events that span across the African diaspora. These events can occur in virtual and physical settings, offering opportunities for individuals to engage and participate. The primary aim of BCW is to provide a global platform that uplifts and empowers Black individuals within the cannabis industry, allowing their voices and contributions to be recognized and celebrated. This Year’s Theme: We are introducing the “unconference” model—a dynamic and innovative approach to community engagement. Under the theme “Deeply Rooted, Growing Together,” BCW 2024 is set to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive cannabis community like never before. Pre-Conference Events - Daily Dose Tour: Kickstarting BCW, the Daily Dose Tour partners with: Marijuana Justice Life After Release Cannabis NYC Simply Pure Trenton La Cultura HBG These partnerships will engage diverse communities in meaningful conversations across several states, providing a platform for connection and exploration of the latest developments in cannabis. Tour Stops: The Daily Dose Tour events across states, including New York, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, will connect our communities in meaningful dialogues. Cannabis Opportunities Conference Location: Philadelphia, PA: Main Conference Location: Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. 3500 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19140 Highlights of Black Cannabis Week 2024: Cannabis Opportunities Conference: During Black Cannabis Week, this 3-day, free event, in partnership with Senator Sharif Street, is the only national conference dedicated to cannabis education for Black and Brown communities. With over 20 sponsors, 50+ vendors, and participation from 85+ stakeholders, this conference is set to engage over 2,500 community members. Key features include dynamic debates, roundtables, breakout sessions, an expo, an expungement clinic, civic engagement activations, a job fair, and MMJ card registration. Day 1 Highlights: Policy Breakfast: A ticketed fundraiser at the DoubleTree by Hilton focusing on critical cannabis policy discussions. Rooted in Justice Film Festival: A free event showcasing six influential films. Bouqé Presents BLAZE THE RUNWAY: A ticketed fundraiser blending fashion, music, and cannabis culture, featuring a pitch contest and a celebration of creativity and community. Day 2 Highlights: 50+ Exhibitors/Vendors: Explore various businesses and organizations in the cannabis industry. Conference Design: Embrace the “Un-conference” model, featuring seven educational approaches and highlighting the Supply Chain of Color. Expungement Fair: Providing vital services to those affected by past cannabis-related convictions.
