VIETNAM: PART 2: Halong Bay One Day Cruise from Hanoi with transfer...I continue my 9 days trip to Vietnam, with both of my parents. Halong Bay trip is going to be on a tourist bus. Going on a tourist bus is especially a very different experience as the guide usually has a script and they give you an overview of various tourist attractions along the way. Our guide was actually very funny. There were around 15 people on the bus from so many different countries. The best part about traveling is meeting new people from various walks of life and a variety of backgrounds. Most visitors get to Halong Bay by land, options are shuttles service, private car, or even a limousine service, and the price ranges from $15 to $200. We would have two main locations that we would be visiting at Halong Bay. One of them is Thien Cung Cave and the second stop would be Ti Top Island. While cruising on the boat, we would have a wonderful lunch with fresh ingredients from the nearby floating villages. The next stop was the Halong Bay marina from where we would take the cruise boat where the lunch would be served. This marina was huge and so was our cruise boat. The views were really amazing and these green mountains reminded me of the Machu Pichu trip before the pandemic. Who would have thought that Vietnam and Peru would have a similar scenery… We had several dining tables, and vegetarian food was served on a separate table, that's where mom was sitting along with other guests. Thien Cung Cave After enjoying the meal it was time to burn some calories… The first stop is located just 4km from the harbor, for us was Thien Cung Caves…this cave is often referred to as nature’s gift in Halong Bay. This is the most interesting and legend-filled cave in Halong Bay with a unique winding pathway through the “Heavenly Palace”, also a very popular stop for the best cruises. There are lots of urban legends surrounding these caves, It was told to be the ancient residence of the Dragon King and his beautiful bride, May. According to the legend, they had a spectacular wedding at the heart of the cave, attended by gods, genies, fairies, and dragons... May and the Dragon King raised 100 children, and all the while they called the cave home. During this time, the Dragon King would fly out among the islands in the bay, helping local fishermen and farmers with their work and defending them from invaders. When their 100 children were grown, May took a half to explore new areas of Vietnam, forging pathways and creating new villages. The Dragon King and the other half of the children stayed in Halong Bay and continued to be its guardians and rulers. In 1993, fishers chanced upon the cave as they sought shelter from a bad storm that had blown into the bay; they were amazed to discover the ancient caverns of myth. There are 10,000 square meters to explore, four colossal pillars that hold up the ‘roof of heaven’, bubbling streams, and ever-growing rock formations… Amazing rays of light down into the cavern As you exit the cave you’ll be at an impressive vantage point that overlooks the whole of the bay, and then a short trek will take you back down a set of stairs to return to your cruise. Titop ISLAND After coming back to the cruise, we started to sail towards the next and the final stop - Ti Top Island… As we get off the cruise, there was a huge Statue of a Russian commander, I decided to go check out the views from the top of the viewing point. This was a very steep hike for about 15-minutes or so... There are around 1,969 islands and islets made from limestone towering like skyscrapers throughout the Halong bay... Many of these have formed through almost 500 million years of effort from mother nature… Titov Island (also known as Titop) is approximately 8km to the southeast of Halong Bay, this is one of the best destinations in Halong Bay for swimming, kayaking, and climbing. The island was named after the legendary astronaut Gherman Stepanovich Titov who accompanied President Ho Chi Minh to visit this beautiful island in 1962. Apart from the amazing natural scenery, this island also has a very attractive beach, it is pretty quiet and airy. The sand here is quite clean because it is frequently washed by the tide flowing in and out continuously. The water is blue and clean all year round. For that reason, some cruises in Halong Bay choose Titov Island as a stopover for its passengers to enjoy recreational activities. All tours are really good and very similar, go with the one with the best reviews and the options that YOU would enjoy.
