Ileal Pouch Anastomosis is done when the whole of the large intestine or the rectum are to be removed for a particular disease. So there is no rectum or large intestine in them. So the last part of the small intestine, called as ileum is attached directly to it so when we attach that the ileal contents or the content s of the small intestine will be very liquid, whereas it will all be solidified in the large intestine. Now that there is no large intestine or there will be a lot of loose stools and frequency of motions if it is directly attached to the anal canals to prevent it, with the ileum they do a pouch like J pouch or some sort of a pouch like thing so that it will be collected to an extent and will be released. It is connected to the anal canal and it is done in very few cases especially in a disease called as ulcerative colitis where it is extensive and the cure is contemplated by removing the whole large intestine or and the rectum.
