After a long wait, I’m excited to present to you a gun restoration project that I believe will interest you. This gun was in a very rusted and worn-out state. At first glance, it was missing its wooden pistol grips. As I began the restoration, I realized the mechanism was stuck. Cleaning with rust remover and sandblasting helped uncover its true condition. When separating the main body and the barrel, I encountered some challenges, as I had missed a detail, which cost me more time. The barrel had "16" marked on both sides, indicating it was a 16-caliber gun. Meanwhile, the rest of the parts had "28" etched on them. This was done intentionally to mark the parts and show the distinct assembly orientation. I couldn’t, however, figure out what the number “28” stood for. After some research, I discovered that “28” was the plate number for a city named “Kerasus,” located in the Black Sea region, which still exists today. An intriguing piece of history. I suspect that the drive spring tensioner beneath the pistol cock had been broken at some point. There were numerous welds in that area, and the pieces didn’t fit properly. I removed all the poorly executed and unattractive repairs and started a new restoration. I strengthened and refined this part, adding a more aesthetically pleasing touch. At the same time, I began to realize this gun was likely handmade. While lathes, milling machines, and drills were used in its creation, it didn’t seem like it was mass-produced. It seemed like a project someone might have made in their garage or home workshop. This thought aligned with the possibility of where it might have been crafted. The sight on the gun was incorrect and didn’t match. The spaces between the main body and the barrel were uneven. I took the time to restore and correct all the parts and measurements, aiming for perfection. I also remade the bolts and connecting pieces from a bronze alloy and nickel-plated them for durability. After removing all the corrosion and deformities, I sandblasted the gun again and applied cold blue to give it a sharp, dark finish. The details were done in silver, while the gun itself remained black. I shaped the missing grip pieces from root walnut wood and etched a pattern on them using laser technology. I don’t want to spoil all the details here, but the full restoration is shown in my detailed video. Lastly, I must admit that I’m not very skilled with guns. You’ll see that in the test footage, but I made sure to take all the necessary safety precautions—both for myself and to ensure no one else was harmed. Enjoy the video, friends!
