Over the last year the Coconino County Sheriff's office has seen an increase in suicides at Midgley Bridge. In 2015 there were four cases of people jumping from the bridge, just north of Sedona. In previous years Mayor Sandy Moriarty says the occurrence was occasional in the past. In response to the recent increase the City of Sedona is working on ways to reduce the number of attempts at the location. The road is controlled by Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), which the Sedona Fire Department sent a letter request to. The letter according to Ed Mezulis express a desire to look into ways to reduce the potential of suicides at the location. Help is available through a 24-hour local prevention hotline at 928-634-2236. Additional information about mental health and suicide is also available online at www.MentalHealthCoalitionvv.org.
