Today I’m taking you through a first full drive of the all-new 992.2 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid—arguably the most complete, most technically exciting GTS ever made. And the first one with its own personality! To me, what makes this GTS special isn’t just the hybrid—it’s the new bespoke 3.6 litre Flat 6 engine! It sounds mean and purposeful, and is packaged in a way that it’s smaller than the predecessor 3.0, and lighter — to allow for the hybrid elements. All in all, a very exciting engine - producing more than the previous GTS by itself, at 485PS. Then we have the t-hybrid system, adding an electric motor (embedded in the gearbox) and an F1 derived single electric turbo, or e-turbo, with zero lag! This gives a total output of 541 PS, 610 Nm and a mad 2.9 sec to 60! But we test this much faster! Porsche claims the T-Hybrid is only 50 kg heavier but they’re comparing a two-seat hybrid to a four-seat petrol car. The real number’s closer to 75/85kg. Still an amazing effort — but classic Porsche, they care about weight reduction enough to fib about it, but luckily we read the small print at RBR! The a chassis setup is upgraded too, with new mounts for the engine and gearbox, standard rear-wheel steering and optional electro-hydraulic roll control for PDCC thanks to the 400v system. So a massively impressive set up.
