LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The decision makers for medical marijuana dispensary licenses in Arkansas have changed. A new firm has been hired to take over the grading of the applications for dispensaries. A meeting with the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission was held Tuesday night in Little Rock. The new firm was there. They were hired by the commission so that there would be no more worries about the scoring process being fair and independent. After concerns that their may be a conflict of interest with the commission handling the scoring, "The Public Consulting Group," out of Boston was hired by the commission, to take over the process of scoring. There are 198 dispensary applications...to fill 32 positions in the state. Five scorers were chosen based off of criteria set by the commission. They include people with experience in government, cannabis, pharmaceuticals, law and medicine. Thomas Aldridge is with the consulting group. "We're not distributing 200 applications and saying good luck go at it and interpret these things as you wish. We have very prescriptive ways of trying to train our folk," said Aldridge. Scott Hardin is with the Arkansas Department of Finance. "They have absolutely no connection to any of the applicants," said Hardin, "Really no connections to Arkansas" The consultants will look over the applications in the next week. They have about 30 days to return the scores. There will be 4 dispensaries in 8 regions of Arkansas.
