In this video I show you in Alteryx how to quickly total a column, append the column and then do calculations based not data to get the percent total. I also show you how to deal with data issues. One thing you'll find about Alteryx is that it doesn't like dealing with currency formatting from Excel. So in this video you'll see that I actually create a formula to remove the $ and,. I walk you through every step of this including breaking out the summary total, a pending the total to reach row in a new column and then building the percent total calculation. I also split out by customers that are past due and customers that are not. Then I also do a separate summary tool where I break out with grouping for customer count, weeks overdue or behind and more. In the end were taking three months of data for a buy here pay here car dealership and figuring out the number of customers that pay on time and those that don't or are late. We then dive a little deeper to figure out, of those are that are late, how many of them are one 1, 2, 3, etc. weeks late and how much revenue this buy here pay here car dealership is missing due to each of these groups of customers. As I tell you in the video this was actually a problem that came from a question on Reddit. Someone wanted to know how to do column totals and then a percent and a new column based on that column total. I just went and took some data I had access to (the BHPH car sales data) and applied this problem to this data set. This is what we do in data analysis and data science. We take problems and solve them by using numerous applications like Alteryx and in the end were left with a reusable model that we can save in Alteryx and reuse for a similar situation. Now, it's important to note that you may have to make a few small tweaks to run this exact same process with a different data set, but this takes you through the process from the beginning to the end with data that originally resided in Excel and it shows you the usefulness of Alteryx in creating a very visual and easily maintained process. I hope you found this interesting and informational on using Alteryx, the append and formula tools. Please subscribe and like she can see all of my other videos I have coming out on data science and data analysis related topics. Also be sure and check out the rest the videos on my channel.
