This is the first in a series of videos on Georgian etiquette associated with how to have a conversation in an 18th century drawing room. In the Georgian period of British history, being well mannered and knowing how to behave in what was called "polite society" was very important to be accepted by those with power and influence. In this series, we will be demonstrating various aspects of behaviour that would be expected of women and men (or as they would have said then "ladies and gentlemen") in the Assembly Rooms and wealthy households of Britain. The precursor to any conversation for a gentleman would be the bow. How low he bowed denoted his status, so the lower down you were in society, the lower you bowed. For the first lesson, we meet Sarah Ward and West-Digges showing the chaps how to bow.
