Shortly after the sale, Biswas mysteriously disappeared near a cliff, and with a man-eating tiger roaming the forest, the police suspected he had been killed. Mehta, known for his involvement in smuggling and fraud, vanished soon after, leaving behind a mystery. While staying in the very room once occupied by Biswas and his wife Hemvati, Byomkesh notices strange clues, including a suspicious alarm and unusual bank records.
