Although exciting, my first experience at a Supercharger has led to huge trepidation about the future supercharging situation in Hong Kong. It doesn’t take much math to work out that the number of Supercharger stalls (currently less than 150 stalls spread across 23 Supercharger locations in Hong Kong) may be inadequate to service over 10,000 Tesla vehicles (with the number of Tesla owners growing every year). Considering the fact that in Hong Kong, where the majority of people live in high-rise flats, the majority of Tesla owners do not have home charging. Therefore an over reliance on supercharging together with a limited supply of Supercharger stalls is a real-world problem in Hong Kong. Unless Tesla rapidly increases the number of stalls and Supercharger locations in Hong Kong, the queuing situation I experienced at Elements Mall Supercharger (ie, occupied stalls and queues during weekday mornings, weekday afternoons and after midnight in June 2020) may be a sign of things to come.
