An automated tensile test on heavy plate is mainly performed according to the internationally recognized and very widely used standards ISO 6892-1 and ASTM E 8. Tensile specimens for this automated tensile test are taken from the heavy plates in such a way that the plate thickness is retained as specimen thickness wherever possible. The tensile specimens have a correspondingly large cross-section and usually require material testing machines in higher load ranges or in the heavy load range. Safe and precise handling of heavy specimens places high demands on operation. ZwickRoell supports the implementation of these requirements with fully automatic robotic testing systems: Reducing operator workload, minimizing operator influence and increasing operational reliability. The automation concept of ZwickRoell involves manually sorting the specimens to be tested into magazines. From this point - storage of the specimens - the tensile test runs automatically, right through to sorting of the specimen residues for any subsequent inspection that may be necessary.
