A decade on from my moaning about bling lighting which looks great from the outside but lacks the convictions of their connections inside… and nothing’s changed except I'm older, fatter and none the wiser. I guess it’s time for me to get another long rant off my chest. Speaking of moans – here are two relating to big tech. Firstly, I was hoping to subtitle this video as it’s quite fast paced and all done to a tight script, however my editing software, Powerdirector 365 which I pay monthly to use, have hidden the subtitle feature behind an additional paywall claiming it to be an “AI benefit” whereas it used to just be part of the package. Even with a written script, I cannot import it as you (rather ridiculously), have to have a subtitle track before you can import the subtitles which means either manually typing in 3798 words or coughing up extra for their AI speech-to-text nonsense. So, I’m sorry if it’s all a bit fast-paced and if YouTube mangles the auto captioning, but YouTube do their level best to demonetise anything I put out and I can’t be splurging additional monies on features that get removed from my subscription package by greedy tech bros. Secondly, I uploaded a partially completed version of this video and was ban-hammered with strike 1 of 3 by YouTube for violating their sex and nudity policy. Obviously, in a video about lighting, even with my usual foul language and questionable humour, there was no “pornography or sexually gratifying content” as they put it. It seems even typing such words or speaking them aloud in a presentation is excuse enough for little bitch Americans to cancel content despite them never shutting the fuck up about free speech and liberty. For a platform that allows videos where crime and murder is discussed or where police officers are shown using lethal force, dropping a gag into a lighting video that’s marked as ‘NOT MADE FOR KIDS’ should not result in the humourless Morality Police turning up clutching their bibles and flags and expunging content off the internet. As I say, the revenue has tanked which means making content costs me a lot of time and money. I used to do it for the fun factor, but any joy is constantly sucked out by platforms such as YouTube trying to stifle my creativity. This presentation has been particularly time consuming to put together with scripting starting back in early July. It’s funny how watching content on YouTube is such a miserable ad-riddled experience these days, yet as a creator of content my noise brings in a fraction of what it once did. Anyway, thanks for tuning in while you still can!
