The SC has said Guv RN Ravi's act is clearly violating Article 200 of the Constitution. The SC has already given a similar judgement in the Punjab case. What is really remarkable about this judgement is, they've seen this as such a big violation of the Constitution that they've invoked a very rare article 142 saying we are basically considering these bills as signed. That's very rare. That's more dramatic and unusual. The SC has also fixed a time frame which we didn't have since we adopted the Constitution. It constrains the unelected office of an individual from obstructing the will of the people through elected legislature. There are many states where the union govt is trying to interfere in their independent functioning. There are many things to push back against. Different states have different matters to court. Whatever victory this is, it's not about DMK or not about Tamil Nadu, it's about all States and the union of India.. West Bengal has gone to court, Karnataka has gone to court, Kerala has gone to court, Punjab has gone to court,.. Surely a pattern emerges. In case of TN, after we discuss with him and give it to him he refuses to read out the customary assembly address. Non-signing of bills. From day one onwards this Guv has even refused to read the Guv's address properly for the last 3 years in a row. He says I can't read, I won't read. He says it goes against his constitutional duty to read what we give. That's exactly wrong. His constitutional duty is to read exactly what we say should be read. If he personal morality stops him from reading what we give, no problem he can resign and not do the job. If he's there he has to do the job. I'm an optimist. I hope the future should be better than the past. Though my hopes had been dashed multiple times, I still remain optimistis. The first Guv I came across when I was opposition... Vidya Sagar Rao... I was very disappointed to see him effectively brokering a deal between EPS and OPS. Then Mr Purohit came. He turned out to be more intrusive and interfering. After that we got this gentleman RN Ravi. He is worse. The office of the Guv as envisioned in the Constitution is high office. It's not a political seat or a propaganda seat. It's not intended as an equivalent of an MLA or a councillor. Mr Ravi has continuously used the State's money to engage in events that spreads false propaganda. Without any backing in history. He is more of an active politician and less of a statesman. He has an activist agenda. It's not fitting the decorum of hia office. His unscholarly, highly questionable rhetoric. Mr Ravi isn't even a good politician. Politicians have a sense of getting the pulse of the people. He's not even been successful in that. The position of the Guv is a hangover from the British empire. From day one the DMK has asked when we have elected people, why do we need some other authority? A lot of our constitution has been written as a vision statement than an execution manual. There's been a lot of debate about whether the Guv post should be there or not right from the first day. Many people have called for the abolishen of this post. The DMK's stance hasn't changed. It's a fact that he is acting like a politician. He is unread. Is it the job of the Guv to be an activist and continuously engage with the public? Is it his job? Where does the Constitution say this? It's the job of elected members. If you are in a constitional post, you should be completely apolitical. He happens to be spectacularly ill informed. As far as demand for him to resign is concerned, whatever the CM's stand is that's my stand. #palanivelthiagarajan #dmk #rnravi #supremecourt #sc #tamilnadu #tamilnadugovernor #timesnow Times Now - Times Now News channel examines news with in-depth analysis.
